Boutique Baroque 24-27 Jan 2012
Written by Irish Baroque Orchestra
Boutique Baroque is the IBO's pilot education and outreach event, taking place at the Kevin Barry Room, National Concert Hall from 24-27 January 2012. We invite audiences to learn a little more about the Baroque era, by attending or participating in one of the broad mix of events on offer (see programme outline below). Why not come along to the "Introduction to Baroque Music" discussion and start your discovery there! And don't forget, the IBO will be performing throughout the week (in the MASTERWORKS 2012 concert series, featuring Bach, Vivaldi and Telemann) so there are plenty of opportunities to see us in action too.
TICKETS / BOOKING / INFO: Please contact the National Concert Hall for any queries and for all ticket sales, for Boutique Baroque. Online booking is available at www.nch.ie or by telephone 01-417 0000

A little background: The Baroque era is a fascinating part of history. The music alone is brilliant: a heady mix of gorgeous sounds, simmering tensions and highly charged emotions carry the listener back 300 years to the sights and sounds of 18th century Europe. Added to this are the intriguing period instruments, lovingly crafted and featuring authentic gut strings, historically accurate tuning principles and bows, all giving rise to unique sights and sounds for audiences. And then there is the positioning of baroque music in the context of complex political intrigue, flamboyant affairs of the heart and the deep influences of society and philosophy! It is no wonder then that a great revival of interest in Baroque music is sweeping the globe.
