Anne Marie Gibbons, Mezzo Soprano

Anne_Marie_Gibbons Anne Marie Gibbons studied at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Dublin and subsequently at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. Early credits include Chinese Cup, Dragonfly and Little Owl L'enfant et les Sortilèges, Suzy/Lolette La Rondine, Nancy Martha, the title roles in Julius Caesar and Orfeo ed Euridice, Isabella Italian Girl in Algiers and Clarice La Pietra del Paragone. Other engagements include the title roles in Ariodante and La Cenerentola for Opera Theatre Company Ireland; Siegrune Die Walküre and Gutrune Götterdämmerung (with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland under Alexander Anissimov) in Limerick and at Symphony Hall, Birmingham.

From 2004-2007 as Company Principal with English National Opera Anne Marie performed Dorabella Cosi Fan Tutte (conducted by Mark Wigglesworth & Edward Gardner), Anna The Trojans at Carthage and Ascanius The Trojans (Paul Daniel), Ino Semele (Laurence Cummings), Sister Mathilde The Dialogues of the Carmelites (Paul Daniel), Pitti-Sing The Mikado (Simon Lee), Flora La Traviata (Jonathan Darlington), Bacchis La Belle Helène (Emmanuel Joël), Nero Agrippina (Daniel Reuss), Kasturbai Satyagraha (Johannes Debus) and Annio La Clemenza di Tito (Edward Gardner). During this period external engagements include Pippo La Gazza Ladra for Opera North with David Parry.

She has an extensive oratorio and concert repertoire including Handel's Messiah and Judas Macabbeus; Mozart's Coronation Mass and Requiem; Vivaldi Gloria; Verdi Requiem; Beethoven's Mass in C and Ninth Symphony (with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra); Dvorák Mass in D; Bach Christmas Oratorio; Rossini Petite Messe Solonelle; and Mendelssohn Elijah and Bach Magnificat with Richard Hickox at the St Endellion Festival.

Ms Gibbons' recordings include Zulma Elvida and Abra Il Diluvio Universale for Opera Rara, Sister Mathilde The Dialogue of the Carmelites and Zulma Italian Girl in Algiers for Chandos.

Recent engagements include Peter Eötvös' As I Crossed the Bridge of Dreams for Almeida Opera, Anna Maria Stuarda for Chelsea Opera Group, Second Lady The Magic Flute for Welsh National Opera, Flora La Traviata for Longborough Festival Opera (with Gianluca Marciano), Rosmira Partenope for Les Azuriales Festival France. Current and future engagements include the title roles in Ariodante and Teseo for English Touring Opera and Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri with the RTE Symphony Orchestra at the National Concert Hall.
