A. Vivaldi: Concerto for 3 Violins in C RV551
The acoustic perfection of the four-stringed fiddle we know and love today came into its own during the 17th century, with Italians like Marini, Castello and Bertali forging the instrument's extraordinary technical advances. Meanwhile, Pachelbel, Bach and Purcell proved that the baroque love affair with the instrument extended well beyond Italy's borders. The only problem is that one violin is never really enough. So here it is in triplicate: a concert of music written for three violins played by three outstanding soloists. With Vivaldi's jubilant homage to his favourite instrument rounding off proceedings, you're guaranteed to leave smiling.
