Haydn: A Classical Trilogy (May 2011)
IBO PERFORMS A TRIO OF HAYDN SYMPHONIES: "Le matin", "Le midi", "Le soir"
The Irish Baroque Orchestra, led by artistic director and Grammy-nominee, Monica Huggett presents a very special programme of Haydn's famous symphonies at the end of May.
Haydn composed his symphonies no. 6, 7 and 8 (more commonly known as 'Le matin', Le midi' and 'Le soir') in the early years of his employment at the court of music-loving Prince Esterházy. These works were designed to win favour with the Prince and showcase the talents of gifted musicians in the palace orchestra through the inclusion of many thrilling and technically challenging solo passages.
The IBO includes some of today's very best early music instrumentalists, and audiences seeking virtuoso playing and historically accurate performances (and instruments) should be well rewarded at these enjoyable concerts!
Performances take place at Christ Church Cathedral Dublin on Fri 27 May (at 7pm) and St Iberius Church in Wexford on Sat 28 May (1pm). All concerts last approximately one hour with no interval
The Irish Baroque Orchestra is generously supported by the Arts Council.
