2024 IBO Summer Tour Ends at Edinburgh International Festival

From August 6th to August 22, we toured the UK and Belgium with 'Mr Charles the Hungarian'. Over three weeks, we brought the eccentric character of Mr Charles and a reimagined version of one of his celebrated performances at Dublin's Smock Alley Theatre to Snape, London, Bruge, and Edinburgh.

Our musicians began rehearsals for our first stop at the wonderful Snape Maltings early in August. We then went on to London for a performance at the iconic St. Martin in the Fields, in Trafalgar Square, and the first leg of the tour concluded at MAFestival in Brugge. For this festival performance we received our first review in the German edition of Bachtrack:

“Inspiration, opernarienhafte, dramatischere Momente sowie edlere bis derbere Kontraste waren so innerhalb der Stücke an einer selbstverständlichen, vor allem organischen, Tagesordnung.”

"Inspiration, operatic, dramatic moments, as well as, nobler to coarser contrasts were a natural and above all organic presence within each piece." - Jens Klier, Bachtrack

After a brief respite, we made our debut at the Edinburgh International Festival - performing in the prestigious Queen's Hall as part of their celebrated mid-morning concert series.

We were thrilled to bring the magic of Dublin's 1742 Handelmania to audiences across the UK and in Brugge. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the tour and time-travelled with us back to the infamous concert put together by Mr. Charles the Hungarian.

If you missed the tour and want to listen to the program, check out the album on Spotify or purchase your copy of 'Mr Charles the Hungarian' through our website.
