The Irish Baroque Orchestra is delighted to welcome two new members to the orchestra. Following a competitive process Joanna Patrick-Taffs and Pablo de Pedro Cano have been appointed as Co-Principal Violas.
An alumnus of the European Union Baroque Orchestra, Joanna Patrick-Taffs has performed as Principal and Co-Principal Viola with La Nuova Musica, the Academy of Ancient Music and Florilegium. She is also an experienced and energetic educator and workshop leader.
Pablo de Pedro Cano is a former Principal Viola of the European Union Chamber Orchestra and worked closely with Nikolas Harnoncourt for many years as a member of Concentus Musicus Wien. He also performs regularly with Europa Galante and Collegium Vocale Gent. An established educator, Pablo currently holds the position of Professor of Historical Viola at the Royal College of Music in London.
Commenting on the appointment, Joanna says
"It is my great pleasure and privilege to join the Irish Baroque Orchestra and to share role of Principal Viola with Pablo de Pedro Cano! I am endlessly inspired by the ensemble's energy, enthusiasm and dedication to bringing wonderful performances to as many people as possible and I am honoured to be a part of this going forward."
Pablo commented, "I’m beyond excited to take on the position of principal viola with the Irish Baroque Orchestra — and even more thrilled to be sharing this role with Joanna Patrick-Taffs! It’s a true honour for me to experience such intense and inspiring musical moments alongside my wonderful colleagues. I can’t wait for all the collaboration and music-making ahead!"
Speaking about the dual appointment, CEO Aliye Cornish Moore says "How fortunate we are to have not just one but two phenomenal Principal Violas in this powerhouse of a section at the centre of our orchestra. We are thrilled to be welcoming both Pablo and Joanna, formalising two relationships that have spanned several years and many projects. The IBO is continuing to go from strength to strength and we look forward to embracing the opportunities ahead of us as an expanded team!"
